Game Drives

The best way to check some members of the Big Five off your to do list is definitely a game drive in one of Botswana’s National Parks such as Chobe, Moremi or the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Customised safari vehicles ensure a great all-round view and the upmost comfort as you venture into the wilderness.

The knowledge of the guides is invaluable if you want to spot rare or elusive creatures such as leopards or cheetah. The guides know the movements and habits of the animals and will spot creatures that are invisible to the untrained eye. The tour guides are also an inexhaustible source of information on the animals and their habitats, so don’t be afraid to ask. There is more than just good looks to African wildlife.

Night Drives

If you want to see predators in action night time is the right time to go on a game drive. The hunters only come alive once the heat of the day starts to fade. If you want to witness the gruesome spectacle of a lion kill or spot a leopard lifting his prey into the safety of a tree, your chances are considerably higher at night.

Surprisingly enough many of Africa’s predators are easier to spot in the absence of daylight. Most mammals excluding primates have a reflective layer in the back of their eyes. This enhances their night vision but also makes their eyes glow in the spotlight. By using a red filter the safari guides can spot animals during their nocturnal activities without interrupting their natural behaviour.

Night drives also give you a great opportunity to spot some rare nocturnal mammals such as porcupine, aardvark or bush babies.
