Learn from the Bushmen

Leave the modern world behind and join one of the world’s oldest cultures in their traditional and self-reliant lifestyle. The Bushmen of the Kalahari, also known as San or Basarwa, are among the oldest human cultures. Documented in rock paintings all over Southern Africa, these tribes have a history that reaches back over 100 000 years.

San Bushman by Ian Beatty

The San Bushmen are hunter-gatherers that once roamed large parts of Southern Africa. Pastoral tribes and white farmers have displaced the San to the arid planes of the Kalahari. Despite the challenges of a changing environment the San continue to live by their humble and traditional means. While the men hunt with poisoned arrows the women gather roots and tubers. Witnessing their age-old knowledge and practises is an experience that is humbling and challenges the principles of our modern lifestyle.
