Maun – Gateway to the Okavango Delta
Maun is Botswana’s tourism hub and the gateway to the Okavango Delta. The town’s economy depends on tourism and almost every trip to the Okavango Delta starts and ends here.
What to Do in Maun
Maun is focused on safaris to the Okavango Delta. However the Okavango Swamps Crocodile Farm and the Maun Environmental Education Centre are definitely worth a visit. The Bull & Bush Pub and the Power Station offer pub and grub in a comfortable and vibrant atmosphere. If you are looking for some live music, try the bar of the Maun Lodge for jazz and some traditional tunes.
Apart from the pub food you will find simple but wholesome meals at Hilary’s. For European bakery products and good coffee try the French Connection. Go to the Curry House for a cheap and tasty Indian fix.
Maun Accommodation
The Maun Lodge and the Sedia Hotel offer the best and most luxurious accommodation in town.
Other than Gaborone, Maun offers quite a lively backpacker scene. Most of the budget options offer camping as well as chalets or tents. Audi Camp is a well-established accommodation and a good place to meet people. The Okavango River Lodge and Back to the Bridge Backpackers offer a relaxed atmosphere. For an idyllic setting right on the river book into the Crocodile Camp.
