Tulbagh Mountain Bike Trails

Tulbagh is a great weekend away for outdoor enthusiasts. Not only does this valley offer superb wines and gourmet food, but the views are simply stunning. The surrounding mountains provide great venues for outdoor activities and shelter the historic down from gusty winds. Mountain bike enthusiasts will find a variety of trails and many ways to relax and indulge after the cycle.

Tulbagh is protected by the Obiqua Mountains in the West, the Winterhoek Mountains in the North and the Witzenberg Mountains to the East. There are many trails of moderate difficulty in these mountains, so you can just grab your bike and start exploring. Maps of the area are available in the tourism office on Church Street.

Silwerfontein Mountain Bike Trail

The Silwerfontein Trail guides you roughly along the shores of Voëlvlei Dam. Shady forest section and great views of the lake and the valley make this a pleasant and rewarding cycle. The ride consists of mostly jeep track and gravel and is a relatively easy 2 hour ride. The Dam is southwest of Tulbagh and you can start your ride at the Silwerfontein Farm.

Tulbagh Circular Route

A very relaxed option is the circular route around Tulbagh. This route takes you through the picturesque farms and vineyards. You could also combine this cycle with a scrumptious lunch or a wine tasting. Head towards the Oude Drosdty from the tourism office and continue to Tulbagh Cellars, where you turn right and return via the Twee Jonge Gezellen wine estate.

Mountain Bike Rental and Accommodation

If you do not have a bicycle Themika Guest Farm and the Tulbagh Hotel have bikes for rent. Themika is also a great option for accommodation in Tulbagh with a relaxed atmosphere and several accommodation options.
