Safari Tours in Namibia

Namibia is one of Africa’s prime game-viewing destinations. The combination of a solid infrastructure with wildlife-rich national parks makes it a favourite among travellers from Africa and overseas. Namibia boasts such diverse habitats as the arid Etosha pan and the lush Caprivi Strip.

Etosha National Park

Due to its superb game-viewing the Etosha National Park is one of Southern Africa’s most popular safari destinations. The park is located around the 5,000 square kilometre Etosha salt pan. Even though the area is mostly dry the density of wildlife is remarkable. It is easy to spot any amount of zebra and springbok. Giraffes, wildebeest and elephants are also a common sight. You stand a great chance of spotting a rhinoceros or one of the large predators such as lion, leopard of hyena.

The park has two entrances, Anderson Gate in the south and an Lindequist Gate in the east of the park. Etosha has three rest camps with various forms of accommodation. The rest camps all have lookouts onto close by waterholes. Some of the waterholes are flood lit by night, which allows great views of the nocturnal creatures. The rest camps all have petrol stations, restaurants and shops.

The park does not require a 4×4 vehicle. Along with the infrastructure, this allows you to have a great wildlife experience without any hassles.

Game Parks in the Caprivi Strip

The Landscape of the Caprivi Strip is atypical of Namibia. This piece of Land is the gateway to the Victoria Falls and connects Namibia with the Okavango and Zambezi Rivers. The large rivers stand in contrast to the otherwise arid country. However the Caprivi Strip is just as rich in wildlife and should be more than just a stopover on your way to Vic Falls.

Exploring the national parks of the Caprivi area requires good preparation. Other than in Etosha you have to be self-reliant in these areas. You will need a 4×4, better yet travel in a convoy. Bring sufficient supplies of food, petrol and water. However you will be rewarded with a real sense of Africa and some amazing wildlife. Bwabwata National Park is home to some of Namibia’s last wild dogs. Mudumu National Park has a diverse range of habitats and the most impressive African animals like lions, elephants, crocodiles and hippos. Also consider the rough and unspoilt Khaudom Game Reserve and Mamili National Park with its 430 bird species.
