TOUR DESCRIPTION AND BREAK-DOWN:
Day 1 Kasane (own meals on day 1) Camping
The tour starts at Chobe Safari lodge in Kasane at 12 pm. Here you will be introduced to our experienced team members and your fellow travelers on this once in a lifetime safari. The meeting will be followed by a leisurely sunset cruise down the Chobe River. Prepare yourself for an early morning as we begin our adventure, departing for the Chobe National Park.
Day 2 Chobe National Park (B.L.D) Camping
Meandering our way along the banks of the Chobe River you will have the chance to spot some of the wildlife and birdlife that flourishes within the boundaries of the Chobe National Park. We will strike camp deep within the park, our bed beneath the African skies.
Day 3: Chobe National park – Savuti 100 Km (B.L.D) Camping.
What better way to start the day then with a cup steaming cup of coffee in hand while watching the majestic sunrise over the Chobe flood plains. Our journey will take us through the Savuti region, passing through local villages always on the lookout for the wildlife that flourishes within the Chobe Park. Thousands of years ago the San Bushman inhabited these lands and the rock art that abounds in this area is a testament to the ingenuity, creativeness and intelligence of the San.
Day 4, 5: Moremi Game Reserve (B.L.D) Camping
The Moremi reserve lies in the heart of the Okavango delta surrounded by criss-crossing waterways, marshes, swamps and forests. This unique terrain draws large amounts of wildlife and is hence one of the premier game viewing sites in Botswana. We will camp here for two days.
Day 6: Maun (B.L.*) Camping
Making the most of the day we rise with the sun and head for the South gate of the Moremi Reserve. For those who wish to capture a birds eyes view of the Okavango River there is the option of taking a flight over the river.
Day 7, 8: Tsodilo Hills and Okavango River (B.L.D) Camping
We follow the Okavango River as it flows towards the Kalahari Basin, a vital lifeline dissecting the dry African Earth. Having established camp we will visit the Holy Mountains of the Gods, a sacred sight for the San people who once roamed freely in these lands. This World Heritage Site provides valuable insights into the San’s customs, practices and beliefs. A large variety of ancient rock paintings decorate the granite mountain tops.
Day 9, 10, Okavango, Mahango Game Reserve (B.L.D) Camping
This sacred San and Hambakushu site contains over 4500 rock paintings, a valuable insight into how both people lived in Botswana. A hike to view these paintings will not only take you back in time but foster a newfound respect for those whose steps echoed on the African plains well before the first Europeans arrived. As we follow the banks of the Okavango River we will have the opportunity to visit both a Hambakushu village and the Mahango game reserve.
Day 11: Kwando (B.L.D) Camping
Today we explore an old German colonial town in the Caprivi game reserve, part of the infamous “Caprivi strip”, where many battles were fought between South African and Angolan forces during Apartheid. The friendly Kwando people will lead the way to Katima Mulilo (the place of fire) a vibrant area filled with traditional markets. This is an opportunity to learn about the history, traditions, craftsmanship and culture of the Caprivi.
Day 12: Kasane (B.L.*) own dinner – Camping
Our final destination is Kasane were we must sadly part ways. It is possible to upgrade and either stay a further night in Kasane or arrange transfer to Livingstone or Victoria Falls, the perfect place to relax for a few days and reminisce about the Safari of a lifetime.
